Pay Band: 11 | $74,231.00 – $84,825.00 / year

Job Summary

The Town of Hearst is seeking a Fire Chief / Fire Prevention Officer to lead and administer the Fire Services Department. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the incumbent directs emergency operations, recruits, trains, and supports volunteer firefighters, oversees fire prevention inspections, maintains operational readiness, manages departmental planning, records and budgets, and is responsible for enforcement and public education.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in fire services, fire protection, emergency management, public administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and fire-service experience.
  • At least five years of progressive fire-service experience, including officer, incident command or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience in emergency response, fire prevention inspections and public education, is considered an asset.
  • Possess, or able to obtain, the training and certifications required for the position.
  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s licence, or ability to obtain it within an approved timeframe, and satisfactory police record check.
  • Strong leadership, emergency decision-making, communication, administrative, computer, recordkeeping and budgeting skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and French.

Working Conditions

This position involves office, fire station, field, and emergency response work. The incumbent must be available to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends and outside regular working hours, must travel within the response area, wear the required protective equipment, and work in difficult or hazardous conditions.
