The Hearst Economic Development Service (EDS) is seeking candidates for an Economic Development Officer position for a one-year contract with the possibility of permanency.
Reporting to senior management, the person occupying this position has the mandate to carry out a range of activities to offer support services for the development of Hearst’s economic sectors and coordinate communication activities of the Hearst EDS. Candidates for this position should have particular interests in creating, designing, researching, writing, communicating and working with numbers.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist with the implementation of communications strategies in the economic development and tourism projects;
- Act as a liaison between local organizations, businesses and individuals and government representatives in matters of economic development;
- Act as a resource person for the community in economic development and tourism projects (advise, research, promote, communicate and write);
- Familiarity with the funders, contacts and programs to assist the community in various projects;
- Research and develop tourism opportunities;
- Initiate and coordinate community activities or projects (ex: Light Up Hearst, Destination Hearst, etc.);
- Develop project funding applications according to identified needs;
- Prepare reports, research documents, papers or educational articles; and
- Assist management in any other related tasks.
Required skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills along with 2 years of relevant experience in local development, management support or related functions;
- Experience in project management, consultation, animation and project analysis; and
- Detain a valid driver’s license.
Salary:
The salary is established according to the classification 8 of the Salary Administration Program and the level of qualifications and experience, which is between $30.56 and $34.92 per hour. A complete fringe benefits program including OMERS pension plan is offered.
